Defense Minister: We Never Bought American Weapons, What We Have Are Just Old Remnants

PHNOM PENH: Minister of Defense Tea Banh has reported that Cambodia had never bought weapons from the United States. Minister Tea Banh has spoken during the groundbreaking ceremony for the actual shooting range at the Phnom Chum Reak Reay Military Police Center in Kampong Chhnang province on Friday morning. He says the current US weapons they have are leftover from the war during the Khmer Republic. He has added that currently, all the weapons are being recalled and those that are no longer used will be destroyed.

He says, “The United States says they will not sell more weapons for Cambodia, well done! We never bought weapons from them. Indeed, these weapons, including ammunition, we collected from Lon Nol in the 1970s that leftover at the bottom of the barn, and access to any other part, those who are now fighting, we did not use, we leave it! So far, not to be fooled, we have gathered a clear place for storage and we will consider the possibility."

Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wintean has also reiterated his opposition to any US pressure on Cambodia on Friday saying that this oppression would be ineffective. He has also attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

Chinese Ambassador Wang Wintean says, "Some countries have exceeded their jurisdiction and interfered in Cambodia's internal affairs. We strongly oppose such actions. Politics, power, oppression, supremacy, bias is powerless."
